What do you think Orion and Sirius’ relationship was like early on? So before Hogwarts…

captofthesswolfstar:

Orion is an emotionally distant father. He wasn’t very involved with his children and when he did interact with them he was oddly formal, even when they were very small.

He wasn’t like Walburga, who was outright cruel at times, in fact he would often tell her she was being a bit harsh on them on the rare occasion he was even present enough to notice.

Sirius never felt much of anything towards him. They didn’t have much of a relationship in his early childhood and when he returned home for Christmas his first year of Hogwarts and wasn’t sorry enough for being sorted into Gryffindor or for the handful of notes that were written home about his detentions, Orion did physically “discipline” him with a belt which left him with a long, thin scar that crossed diagonally across his back. Sirius was still more fond of him than he was of Walburga and could at least have a civil conversation with the man on occasion.

While Sirius felt quite elated to hear about his mother’s passing (He considered this happy news, which was rare since he was in Azkaban when it happened and only heard it from Lucius Malfoy when he had come to visit the prison on ministry business) he was actually a little saddened when his father passed, feeling disappointed for having not had any sort of relationship with him at all. He never let his friends know that he felt that way, but he spent a whole day at Andromeda’s talking about the few decent memories they had from their childhoods and playing with 6 year old Nymphadora.

About getting your work noticed, as I have had a lot of asks about this recently, a lot of it is not about what you as a writer are doing (though of course posting frequently and in an easily palatable form can help), but a lot is how we as a community engage with writers/artists.

Namely, preaching to the choir, and other people have said it better, but reblog.

From my experience, just as a general trend I’ve noticed…

100 notes tends to be around 10 reblogs.

200-300 notes tends to meant between 20-30 reblogs.

500 notes tends to be around 50-60 reblogs.

900 notes tends to be 100+ reblogs

3000 tends to be 500+ reblogs.

66,000 is looking at more like 27,000 reblogs on writing.

Obviously, it’s not an exact science, but you get the point. If you like a writer, reblogging (the little green arrow) is a great encouragement. We generally read all of the tags. Likes are the existing audience. Reblogs allow creators to expand beyond their existing audience.

My main point is, maybe, that if your work is not getting a lot of attention it’s not that you’re bad of writing, it’s to do with how social media works. It takes time. And, predominantly, help.
