What do you think Orion and Sirius’ relationship was like early on? So before Hogwarts…

captofthesswolfstar:

Orion is an emotionally distant father. He wasn’t very involved with his children and when he did interact with them he was oddly formal, even when they were very small.

He wasn’t like Walburga, who was outright cruel at times, in fact he would often tell her she was being a bit harsh on them on the rare occasion he was even present enough to notice.

Sirius never felt much of anything towards him. They didn’t have much of a relationship in his early childhood and when he returned home for Christmas his first year of Hogwarts and wasn’t sorry enough for being sorted into Gryffindor or for the handful of notes that were written home about his detentions, Orion did physically “discipline” him with a belt which left him with a long, thin scar that crossed diagonally across his back. Sirius was still more fond of him than he was of Walburga and could at least have a civil conversation with the man on occasion.

While Sirius felt quite elated to hear about his mother’s passing (He considered this happy news, which was rare since he was in Azkaban when it happened and only heard it from Lucius Malfoy when he had come to visit the prison on ministry business) he was actually a little saddened when his father passed, feeling disappointed for having not had any sort of relationship with him at all. He never let his friends know that he felt that way, but he spent a whole day at Andromeda’s talking about the few decent memories they had from their childhoods and playing with 6 year old Nymphadora.
