Fake Facebook Profiles

((Hey. So, unfortunately when I was on Facebook last night I found something that made me extremely uncomfortable and pissed off.

Someone, who I am certain is a part of this community, has created a number of fake accounts for people who are well known on here.

This person then added made-up information or looked up personal information, then lifted pictures from our personal accounts on tumblr, Instagram and Facebook to include in the fake profiles.

Just doing this would be bad enough, but for some reason they also decided to include Jess’ family in this, which just takes it so far beyond inappropriate that I am genuinely baffled.

It would appear as though this whole thing was based around making it look like someone (my guess being the creator of the accounts) was dating Jess. They had relationship-linked the accounts for me and TT, KP and Andy, and then also someone unrelated to us (themselves imo) and Jess. And then used the other accounts – including Jess’ family – to like and comment on pictures, and the change in ‘their’ relationship status.

I am honestly in disbelief that this is a thing that has happened.

For people in this community, Facebook has always been a private space. This goes so far beyond the line. Especially on Facebook, which is a platform often used, for example, by employers to look at prospective employees, etc.

Just because someone is well known and shares parts (note parts) of their life online, does not give you leave to treat them like fucking Sims. You are not entitled to our information or relationships and this is completely taking the piss.

To take our pictures and mess around with our personal details and relationships for your own amusement or satisfaction or whatever completely without permission is quite frankly invasive and creepy.

The fake pages have been reported and most of them already taken down, but if this was you please delete them all immediately.

You have made everyone involved very uncomfortable, congrats.))

(( OOC: This is not appropriate in any sense of the word, whatever your intentions.

To not only create a fake profile of myself (in which you have clearly done your research on my personal life) but do the same thing for my family members, and insinuate I am in a false relationship, it crosses many many lines.

I don’t know who this was, but as the profiles have been kept very up to date with recent pictures, they clearly follow this blog closely. So please – whoever you are – delete these profiles immediately. I don’t see what purpose they can possibly serve other than to fulfil some twisted fantasy. ))
