blacks never die

The first Christmas after Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor, he was crawled on the floor and Regulus yelled “You’re going to kill him.” of course she wasn’t but Walburga said “Blacks never die.”

After finding out their father died, Sirius said “Blacks never die.” it wasn’t literal but it was just that he felt like even if he was gone from the world, his terror would always stay with him.

After finding out Reg died, Sirius repeated “Blacks never die.” this one was more denial than disgust. He said this to himself several times, trying to convince himself but failing miserably.

While going on a particularly dangerous mission on his own with Moody, he looked at his friends’ worried face and said with a mischievous smile on his face “Blacks never die.” partly because he wanted to believe it this time.

When in Azkaban, it became a habit just for the hell of it, just to stay alive. “Blacks never die, Blacks never die, Blacks never die..” The man who denied he was a Black up until that point used his blood to keep himself alive.

When Sirius entered Grimmauld Place, 12 after years and heard his mother’s screeching and came face to face with her he said “Blacks never die.” and covered her with an enchanted curtain. This time he meant it.

After Sirius fell through the veil, Remus was at the second stage of grief as Sirius was with Reg when he heard himself say “Blacks never die.” It wasn’t true of course, he had seen him die but what if Sirius was right, as he was about most things?

When Remus saw his wife battling for her life right before his body fell to the ground he thought “Blacks never die.” because he wanted to believe it more than he wanted to survive but he would remind himself soon after that Sirius always had been a good damn liar and that Blacks always died.
