Re-watching Prisoner of Azkaban for the gazillionth time…

GUUUYS!! I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING!

Harry blows up aunt Marge and storms up to his room, frustrated and ready to run away…

The camera zooms in on the picture of James and Lily, and they play ’‘Window to the past’’. The same track they play when Remus is talking about them on the bridge.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Soundtrack – 07. A Window to the Past = James and Lily’s theme song!

(I always wondered why it was my favorite track of the Harry Potter soundtrack…)

It plays again as the camera zooms into the clock tower window to find Harry, and in the next scene he meets the twins, and gets the marauders map…

The next time it plays is when Sirius sees the castle again, fantasies about walking through the castle doors once again as a free man, and when he asks Harry to live with him.

Harry and Hermione then go on their time travel adventure to save Sirius. While waiting for things to happen outside the Womping Willow, Harry talks to Hermione about how his father saved his life with a patronus, and how he is going to live with Sirius now…

“someplace where we can see the sky. I think he’ll like that after all those years in Azkaban.”

And then, the track plays once again, as Harry says goodbye to Sirius, and Sirius talks about how much Harry looks like James, except his eyes of course. Sirius then reminds him how those they love never truly leaves us, and that he can always find them, it his heart.

My point is, this track doesn’t just represent James and Lily. It’s played whenever someone talks about them, or reminiscences about them, but also when Sirius talks about his past.

“A window to the past” is the marauders theme. At least that’s what I think they are trying to convey through the music.
