A reminder that turning in assignments for partial credit is better than not turning them in at all. It is. Even if you think you’ve done a bad job and are ashamed of your work, or it’s way overdue, you take whatever you can get. Partial credit dramatically improves your grade over a zero, and I’m always astounded by how often even the smartest kids don’t really comprehend that. 60% is worlds better than 0%. Even 10% is going to help you. Letter grades are misleading and are not created equal. “F"s are mathematically valuable. Turn that late assignment in.
Listen, as a TA, I have to tell y’all a secret: you’re probably not even going to lose that many marks. Just get it handed in, and your TAs and tutors will probably overlook the BS late penalty that’s outlined in the course syllabus.
YES. Also, as a TA, what a late assignment says to us is “this student is having a rough time right now but still cares about this class.” An assignment not turned says “this student doesn’t give a fuck about my class.” I honestly wanted my students to pass the course and would very happily work with a student who showed even the slightest glimmer of “having a rough time but still cares.” Turn it in, even if it’s been a minute. That late assignment gives us an *excuse* to give you a halfway decent grade.
Reblogging again for that comment. Your tutors want you to pass and to do well!
